The trouble with such an old rig is that compared to just about anything else on the road, they are not safe. At least not for getting into a wreck. Dual circuit brakes, collapsable steering column, crumple zones? 15K gets a used Civic that won't need much attention for the next 10 years. As simple as it is, a 40-50 y/o car will need more frequent attention. Can you stand to drive a 40-50 year old car all the time, driving it into the ground? It will not take to the use as well as a new car.

I share your sentiments about driving a soulless econobox but there is a case for it. If you go that way at least you can reflect on the great fuel economy and the idea that you can spend so much more time with your family (especially that grand-daughter!).

I had considered picking up a Lark some time ago. I think they are very nice looking little cars, especially if you lose some of the chrome, paint it more like the truck, if I recall correctly. In a roundabout way, Studebakers are the reason my family drives Volvos. Are you familiar with the Shrock Brothers? They are family friends and longtime Volvo drivers.
