The 850/V70 through 1998 would be a great decision. In 1999 the V70 started using CAN bus communication between the engine, instrument cluster, and transmission ECUs. As a result the tooling and diagnostic equipment to work on these models is much more sophisticated. Also, there are challenges finding competent technicians to diagnose CAN related problems. The CAN bus also requires software downloads when ECUs are replaced. If you have a good technician ask his opinion, since he may be the one taking care of the car.
