The FAQ that you link to is about replacing the entire strut. It isn't clear to me if you have to compress the spring to just replace the insert. Is this true? I think I'd rather just replace the insert, if possible, but I don't want to buy a bunch of extra tools to do the job, especially if it is dangerous.
