I personally would not go wider than 185. Though others have, without trouble. But I don't like it.

Volvo did make 5.5" rims that look identical to the '~71-74 wheels. But it's hard to find a full set. They were found on the likes of '71 142e, 1800E/ES, and later 164E. Look for a serial number ending in 001 (if I recall correctly)

Not frightfully expensive to have wheels widened... something like $70ea or so.
