Adding another wire through the gear shift shaft 200 1985

Thanks, I do have an m46.

After doing some more mental thinking, I came to the conclusion you suggested. Not sure I want to go to that much effort for this. The wires for my OD are fine, and this is just a little "what the hell" thing.

I want to light up my gear-shift knob. I have extra caps (that I've collected over the years for another gear-shift related project I hope to do soon). So I took out the #'s on the cap (which is fun) and filled them in with a translucent epoxy. Sanded it smooth (12000 grit paper), and put in a small light behind it.

Originally I was thinking of using an LED (or two), but found some small lights with a foot long lead for cheaper. so I used those. It would be hooked up to the dash lights, so when I turn on the headlights the cap lights up. I think it'd be neat to see a lit up gear-shift knob. Although for all I know I'll find it annoying to have a stick shift with a lit up top.

It's not perfect yet, but for the prototype it turned out nice.
