Time the interval between the swishes. At idle, is it a bit less than 2 swishes a second and regular? That's the length of the t-belt divided by the number of teeth on the crank gear rotating at 10 rev/sec. A screwdriver stethoscope on the tensioner nut (under the rubber plug) can help to confirm.
