Thanks for that link, but already looked there.

Went out to confirm my grey wire theory; disconnected/cold-start, connected/hot-start.

It is confirmed, and will start disconnected/cold up to about 2/3 of operating temp. So the grey wire must be getting signal from the temp sensor (through the ECU?). And if I then disconnect the grey while running, at operating temp, the idle jumps momentarily and settles back slightly higher than normal at about 1000rmp.

Let me know if that rings any bells, or is just more confusion.

I've got it MacGyver'ed with an alligator clip for now to connect the grey wire when the engine is warm, just hoping I won't fry the ECU.
