I have a bit of a tricky problem that I cant seem to figure out and was wondering if you guys may be able to help. I have a 1986 Volvo 240dl that has been having some electrical issues, which I have come to find being somewhat typical for the 240 model. I recently replaced my alternator and all of the wires connecting to it (ie ground, entire harness, oil sending unit cable) and have found myself with some more problems. The car started fine but when I press the gas or brake my stereo goes off. Also it seems my brights are on when the lights should be in the normal position and when I turn my brights on my lights go off completely and when the car is off it almost sounded like the fuel pump was priming still. I figured this could be because of a low battery so I charged my Optima battery and still same thing. Next I inspected my wiring harness completely and it appears to be fine. No cracking, fraying, completely clean from any corrosion. I have no idea what could be causing this. Some discussion forums have pointed to the ignition switch which would make some sense because lately I've had to turn the key back a bit in order for the car to fire but I'm really not sure. I was wondering if you guys may have any suggestions. Thanks.
