• For a good cooling location, as John (dinomartino) said below.
2) "It seems like it's farther to run the CPS output than it would be to run it straight to the ECU, or to the same power stage nearer the ECU."
• The CPS "output" signal doesn't go to the FI ECU. It goes ONLY to the Ignition ICU. And it's the ICU that controls the Power Stage to trigger the Coil – side (terminal #1) to generate the high voltage to the distributor and then to the plugs.
3) "Maybe it's to protect it from heat."
