Voltage Regulator? 140-160

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll double check the voltmeter and wires.
What happened is that after driving for the first time in a couple of months, (battery was not dead, but run down so I charged it) I was getting no reading on the volt guage, which I assumed was a bad connection. However afterwards I could not start. A quick jump and it started right up. Now sometimes I get a good reading while driving and sometimes the guage just drops to zero. It does seem like a connection, I had checked, but I guess I will have to check agaion and a bit better this time.
I went to the local auto parts chain, they threw it on a tester and it reads "poor regulator"
The current Voltage regulator is a reman aftermarket one from the PO. I was thinking they could stick open/close/fry/diode issue???
Thanks again,
CU
