940 Front End Work

I have a 1994 940, that Seriously needs some Strut inserts, strut mounts, and tower bushings.

Whats the easiest, and least invasive (aka time consuming) removal procedure?

Is their any way to enable access to the top of the strut, removing as little as possible from the frt. end components and possibly being able to remove and replace the insert thru the hole that the mounting plate is screwed to on the inner fender? This is probably a pipe dream, but I thought I would ask, seeing there is not as much to this frt. end as there is in a FWD vehicle, and there's more room to maneuver. I'm assuming that the lower ball joint under the ctrl. arm needs to come off and then be renewed in this process.

Also, what is the part name of the long thinner rod that is mounted to the frame at the back of the wheel well and then on the forward end is in a pocket in the side of the control arm. I was trying to find an exploded drawing of this with no luck. Any help would be appreciated from the Brickboard faithful.
