checking front wheel bearings

If you repack the bearings, The idea of torqueing and loosening is to set and squeeze the grease so you can snug the bearing without the grease giving you a false feel for tightness.

You can just snug the nut up without taking anything apart.. Leave the tire on even...Waterpump pliers... no socket required.

If it were me, I'd probably throw a Jack under that side of the car, snug the Nut with the tire on. Take it for a ride... When convinced that it was just a loose Spindle nut and the bearings are fine.. I'd pull the tire off, lift off the caliper and pull the Hub to repack the existing bearings.
