Last time I had a 232 code I cleaned the throttle body and cleared the code. Symptoms went away. My 92 240 would barely Idle & then die. Read the FAQs in the pulldown menu above for the 700/900 series. Your car should have Bosch LH2.4 system. Also make sure the air intake tube from the air mass meter to the throttle body is free of splits (look on bottom side) and tiny holes & the clamps are very tight. Any unmetered air entering the throttle body will create havoc. Check the condition of any/all rubber hoses & fittings to the intake manifold. Also check your intake air bypass valve (IAC) for cleanliness & proper operation & check throttle position sensor (TPS) for proper operation.
As you open the throttle by hand very slowly, you should hear a faint click off the TPS switch as the throttle moves from fully closed to barely open. There again refer to the FAQs for adjustment & normal operation.
PS: I don't think the K&N filter is your problem
