Dear jwilby,

Hope you're well. I've never changed an engine in any car. That is, I know several, who have done this.

Their experience suggests that your task will be easier, if You find a gently-used Volvo B230F/FD/FT engine, and use that to replace the B234 unit.

The B230 engine may "bolt-in", i.e., you won't need to change the transmission. You will need the engine and ignition computers and the engine wiring harnesses from the donor car.
