someone just did this on TB. The crossmember had a welded on bit that was removed with a cutting wheel, and the 230FT went right in.

Also, there have been numerous non-Volvo engine swaps, to Chevy, Ford, Buick mostly I think. There are actually some white block swaps also, 5cyl 740's, mounted longitudinally.
One car, the Volvette, is on youtube. It's.... fast. Very.
