Disk brake question 444-544 1959

That's a cool series of photos - looks really thorough.

I don't understand the notion behind separating the hubs from the rotor (and drum) and then mating them back together. When I put disk brakes on the front of my PV, all I did was slide a 122/early 1800 rotor and hub (still assembled) onto the PV spindle.
