The big hose has a lot of stories attached to it of varying dissatisfaction with alternate sources (i.e. 7/16, 1/2) with some concrete first hand experience reported by TB user smokeyfan1000 who recommends getting the genuine (12mm) article from Volvo. I'd try to verify the p/n I've listed on my tank pump page, but TB search is a hit or miss affair this morning.

Your '90 has the neoprene (not hard line) return hose 5/16" 30R7. Inside the tank you should use 30R10 submersible.
