As another poster said, the clutch plate is just rusted to the flywheel from sitting. Most cases it is not a big deal.
What I have done to free it up is the following...
1. Start and warm the car up in neutral as you normally would. Shut it off. You want to get it to start easily with little cranking for step #4.
2. Point the car downhill preferably on a road with no intersections or traffic for a ways, if the road starts to climb, all the better.
3. Put it in 1st and hold the clutch down.
4. Start the car keeping your foot down on the clutch. It is going to lurch forward.
5. Gently "goose" the gas a few times while your foot is still down on the clutch.
In most cases, it will release. You may have to step on the brake (while your foot is still down on the clutch) a few times to get it to break free.
