Servicing a friends's newly-acquired 91. Pulled the airbox and happened to notice the bottom radiator tank ridges were not in the rubber support cups. Removed the top holders, put the bottoms in the cups, and saw that the top is misaligned - the top of the tanks is 1/2" to the right of where they should be.
Yeah, I can pry/ twist/ bend and make it work. But I've never seen anything like this. Possibilities:
- The car was in an accident and the front cowl piece is twisted. But this would make one side of the radiator higher than the other and it doesn't appear to be so.
- The car was in an accident and the radiator is out of square. Doesn't appear so but I may pull it to measure.
- It's a poor-quality aftermarket (or a recore) that's out of square. I didn't see "Volvo" on the top of the core.
At this point I infer that there was some trauma and things were't realigned correctly. But there are no signs of repair - the hood lines up well, grill fits perfectly, nothing looks amiss.
Perhaps the car took a light hit and was straightened at home. I did this once to a friend's 240 after he put it in a ditch and twisted the front sheetmetal. I chained the high side down and raised the low side. After a FE alignment he drove it for years.
