If your car doesn't have a star wheel adjuster it probably the type with a center screw on the backing plate with a beveled end pressing against two beveled sliding pieces within a housing inside the drum. One end of the shoes rest against a slot in each sliding piece. As you turn the 1/4" square drive screw on the backing plate in it spreads the two sliding pieces--all very British--and likely seized up if it hasn't been serviced in a long time. -- Dave
