dumb and world's most basic Q's 120-130 1965

There are no stupid questions.

1) Sure, I've used glue. I'd start by washing the engine so you can get a really good idea of exactly where the leak is. That'll clue you in to possible valve cover warpage, as mentioned below. Chances are, the head surface is flat. So, after procuring a new gasket, I'd go with glue only on the cover side. That way, you'll hopefully be able to pull the cover, gasket attached, and still do your 3 min adjustments. If it still leaks, glue the other side. And get a new gasket before hte next valve adjustment. The neoprene gaskets are probably better, though I've never used one.

2) I assume you've got the square adjusters. If not stuck or broken, they are great! I use a socket with a quarter inch drive in reverse... the drive end of the socket fits over the adjuster, then use hte appropriate sized allen wrench to turn it. If I recall, righty tighty, lefty loosey applies. I expect you know how to tighten them appropriately.

But, it kind of sounds to me like you might find yourself in need of getting them drums off and inspect stuff. Especially if a proper adjustment doesn't help the handbrake issue.

Read up here on appropriate pullers and methods for pulling drums.

3) I'm suspecting you have some front end issues. Bad alignment, likely caused by worn bushings/ball joints/tie rods, etc. And that could also be the issue with it pulling to the left then right when braking.

In the end, really a full inspection of steering, suspension, and brakes would be an appropriate thing to do. And not just from a maintenance standpoint, but a safety standpoint as well.
