Was invited at last minute to visit and stay with friends in north-west Nebraska (Chadron area) over the past weekend. Changed oil, topped up fluids, lubricated distributor Saturday morning, just in case we decided to go.
About 2:00, we decided to go. Loaded up the dogs, grabbed a few CDs, and headed north. Came back the following day. I knew the car was in good order, having driven it 200 miles home from picking it up. But something different about a 'get it home' because we have to, and this 600 mile round trip by choice.
Man, what a car. Never so much as a single miss, temp gauge remained between the narrow markings of perfect the whole time. Based on RPM, I expect we got it up to about 85mph (4300 in 4th-O/D), but mostly stuck to ~70-75.
Only issues: Speedometer is all over the place, and generally reads high. Start by lubricating the cable, as I expect it's binding. Maybe try to service the right-angle drive.
Other issue... as much as I love ES seats in their shape and support, 40 year old leather is a bit like sitting on molded concrete. Going to have to try to soften that up. I'm pretty stiff today. Admittedly, the 50+mph winds in all directions, there and back, didn't help with relaxed motoring.
Don't know what's next, but... usually we find our way to the Pacific north-west.
And she's ready for the trip...
