740 engine stumbling when revved once started 700 1991

Sorry for the misinformation on the power stage. I'm not as familiar with the Regina equipped ignition. Info on the idle air control valve can be found in the faq - http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EnginePerformanceSymptoms.htm

It sounds from what you've described that the valve is functioning ok. Although it sounds to me like you're describing an air/fuel mixture problem, it very well may not be. I recently had an issue with my 745. While driving at 55mph it suddenly lost power. If I tried to accelerate, it just got worse. If I backed off the pedal, it ran ok. I limped it along until the problem went away. I talked it over with a few people, all of whom believed it was air/fuel. I did not narrow down the problem, but the one suggestion I received was the problem may be heat related, in that something is breaking down at a certain temperature. I swapped the power stage and coil wires with known good parts I had laying around, cleaned the idle air control valve, cleaned the air filter (K&N), and checked operation of the mass air flow meter. I have not had a problem since. My guess is the problem was electrical, possibly the power stage. I had a similar issue on a 764, and it was a bad connection to the air mass meter. So check all your connections. Perhaps you can add a dab of dielectric grease to your connections while you're checking.

Your problem may also be heat related too since you indicated the problem more often occurs when the engine is warm.

Another suggestion would be to put a timing light on each spark plug and coil wire to see what is happening with the spark when you have the problem. If spark is ok, also check the quality of the spark, such as taking a wire off the distributor and watching the arc. Check into each component of the intake to make sure each is operating properly. Don't exclude the spark system just because everything is new. Reports are on the rise that new parts are faulty.

I hope I have been at least somewhat helpful.
