Check your relay again. It may click sometimes, but might not always work. I'm not really good with electrical things, but perhaps a bad relay is why the fuse was blown. Is the relay burnt on the inside? You might try swapping in a known good relay.

When you say connection do you mean the solenoid connection? If not, check the wiring there and look over all the system's wiring.
