My garage floor is level so I always park in neutral. My feet are rather large so when I start the car it is pushing down the clutch - a good habit by the way as it puts less strain on the starter when cold.

If you are teaching a novice, make him/her get in to the habit of always putting in the clutch when pushing the starter button.
