Make sure your grounds are clean. Take the ignition module (power stage)off and make sure there is no corrosion on the back. The grounding point on the inner fender on the drivers side just behind the headlight is where most of the ignition control system grounds. Pull that off and clean it up. I spent 20 or 30 hours and more money than I needed to, chasing a no-start situation on my '90 740. The second I cleaned up that ground it purred like a kitten...
No spark can also mean no signal from the crankshaft position sensor. There will be no injector activity either...
