I agree with George. Get someone to open and close the heater control and observe if the wire is closing the built-in bypass inside the interior firewall, where the heater hoses connect to the firewall. If you don't need the heater, I suppose you could simply reroute the hoses or install an external bypass.
I'd suspect your extra heat is originating from the engine or exhaust system. Plug all holes in the firewall, replace deteriorated rubber grommets and install new insulation under the rubber mats. I did this on my PV444 to help reduce the noise. Here's my diagrammed procedure: Sound Proof a PV
