That thought crossed my mind, but I was 1900 miles into a 2000 mile trip
when this occurred. I had been driving 75-80 mph on Texas, Oklahoma &
Kansas interstate highways, slowed down a bit to cross Missouri on a US
highway, all with no problem. Then I stopped for fuel, and when I got back
on the highway, I noticed the car was wandering on the road and a strange
howling coming from the rear. Checked the air in the tires and looked under
the car, but obviously didn't check the nuts on the rear wheel. Another 68
miles and the wheel fell off. I had the tire transferred to a spare wheel I
had at home. O'Reilly's had to order the lugs. I should pick them up today
I'm getting spares for the tool box because I might need them again in the
next 44 years of driving.
