starter problem 900 1993

The starter solenoid is attached to the starter motor. There is a small wire connected to the starter solenoid. With the car in park or neutral you should be getting 12v delivered to the solenoid via that wire when the key is moved all the way to the right (start position). Use a meter or test light to check for voltage.

That 12v is what closes the contacts in the solenoid and engages the starter.

If no voltage is present on that wire with the key in the start position you have either a bad neutral safety switch or perhaps a defective ignition switch.

Sometimes a bad neutral safety switch can be simply out of position. Try holding the key in the start position and move the gear selector through its range of motion.

Check it out and post back with the results.

Randy
