Interesting thing about those grill "diagonals"... back in the day, it must have been pretty common to remove them. I owned a '70 model 164, and the diagonal strip was already missing when I bought the car in late 1971.

As I recall, the 1969 164 was the reintroduction vehicle for the diagonal strip on Volvo passenger cars, which had been missing since maybe the early 30's???
