There is no evidence that my '69, s/n 8731, ever had the diagonal stripe, nor the '72
either. In fact I am not sure I have ever seen an early (69-72) 164 with one except
in pictures. I've thought about trying to lay hands on one but none have appeared
before me. The 73-75 models with the plastic grill all have them though.
That is one of the reasons I asked.
