Running Too Cool? 700 1985

If the upper rad hose is too hot to hold for more than a second after a good run, then the gauge or its sending unit in the cylinder head is bad. The gauge sender should read approx. 200 ohms with the engine at full temperature (~90C). You have to disconnect the harness connector and attach your multimeter leads to the sender terminals for this test.

Note that this is not the same sender that signals coolant temp. to the ECU.
