I doubt many of us drive an otherwise well-mannered car with the AMM disconnected but the theory is the ECU senses the absence of the AMM voltage output and places the fuel map in a limp-home correlation to the ignition's RPM signal. The map is rich to avoid valve damage caused by lean settings, and you should find acceleration to be sluggish -- driveable, but only so.
Just swap it. You can't prove one good with a multimeter or OBD anyway.
