Just replaced my original main pump at 475,000 mi.and it was still working. I just got scared!

Some basic troubleshooting should be order, like does the tach drop to zero when it dies and can you hear the fuel pumps?

If you have the original engine wiring harness that's a possibilty. My '87 had similar symptoms back in '97.
