I can't help but look at situations like this from a financial aspect - supply and demand. There will be loads of XC70's on the market for years to come, whereas nice 745/945's are becoming few and far between. I believe you've pretty much ridden the depreciation elevator to the bottom floor with your 945. If you maintain it well, it will be worth just as much (or more) five years from now as it is today. If you go for the XC70, you'll pay what, $8000 to $11000?? In effect you'd be walking back up eight flights of stairs and hopping on the next depreciation elevator that's headed for the ground floor again. Let's not even address the increased insurance and licensing costs. This is all fine if you have the $'s to burn, but think how many speedometers you could buy for that much money. Also, for someone like yourself who does most of your own wrenching, there's even more benefit in keeping the RWD.
Unless you just can't stand the 945 any more, I'd hold out for a while. In about four years that $10,000 XC70 you're looking at will be $5,000.
Just my 1 cent worth here - (2 cents worth is too expensive to this cheapskate.)
