I'm not sure I understand why you don't trust the remote booster.

The 140 style with the long tube bolted to the firewall (I think also used on the 69 and 70 122 version in Europe) are a much bigger deal to procure/install, and as far as I know the failure of the boosters used on the imported 67 and 68 were Girling. I've heard that the Lockheed is a better choice and can be mounted under the hood without too much difficulty.

What about the "remote"ness of the booster is a problem?
