You can get a tremendous, yes overwhelming, amount of information by searching the forum for "200 no start".
It gets "fun" when it isn't in the air intake, electrical power or fuel systems.
From your description it sounds like a problem I had with distributor cap and rotor that I would hope were checked before the wires were replaced. Next I found that the accordion pipe to the throttle body had a hole in it. ... and on and on.
I would need to do more reading on what happens when the timing belt is off a notch. If the engine is not firing properly it is not going to run will and gumming up the engine I suspect could eventually cause difficulty starting, and could make it back fire. Have you noticed a drop in milage?
Do the search on no start and go through all the air intake, electrical power or fuel systems basics first.
