B 20 tuning

Thanks guys, first off the oil in the vacumm is a consistant problem and I wonder if possible if it is pulling it through the distributor. vacuum is strong and constant on this thing. Next I was thinking to myself this afternoon, the carbs before tuning were dumping excess fuel by way of a cloudy exhaust that smelled of gas. After tuning they have that typical higher revving when I come to a stop that in time does slow down but continues higher than they were tuned for which has me thinking this scenario............ is it possible that the engine could 'ping' from excess fuel if the timing is correct? If so is it also possible that after tuning the carbs and setting them up correctly that the timing may need to be adjusted again? My feeling is yes to both questions but if there is not an exact science to the simplicity of these engines then why not just toss the fucking thing out and drop a ford 289 into the car? Dont get me wrong, my car when tuned has balls, 150 HP with the rear end of 3:91 it goes, but after this recent tuning it is now sluggish, hesitates off the start and has limited power at take off. Why cant there be an exact timing and an exact measure for fuel in these things. Tinkering is fun but for a daily driver it is frustrating. Im venting, sorry but Im to the point of 2 years of working on this car it went from being very exciting to wondering if I should sell it someone who wants to tinker every day.
