Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately there are no vacuum sources to check because I use a diesel generator with vacuum pump on the back to provide vacuum for brakes etc. I did replace the manifold gasket, so I'll check I've got everything tightened up: your comment makes me think I should check if the inlet manifold is perfectly flat.
