I've struggled with a leaking manifold gasket for years.
I've had my intake "faced" but still have a leak.
It's very aggravating. Have always avoided using gasket sealer, but I think next time I'm going to use some RTV.

Try spraying some carb cleaner at the joint between the intake and exhaust manifolds between #1 and 2 cylinder - right at the stud and see how the engine reacts.
