Agreed, it is good advice. The good advice has, for a long time on this list, been to obtain a spare ECU and AMM when things are going well for you, and you can test junkyard-priced examples of them in your well-running car, to keep on hand for when the symptoms do not immediately identify the failing piece of the puzzle.
The ECU and especially the AMM have each so many subtle modes of failure or non-performance, a substitute is the quickest way to rule them out. Everyone driving these 20+ year old cars should have at least one spare of each.
