The car is a 1982 Volvo 242 [GLT] with a B23E engine.
I finally got the main fuel pump assembly apart and now cannot find a way to get it back together so that it does not leak.
The line from the pump forward to the engine consists of a banjo fitting and three copper washers.
I have assembled the pump twice now and have not succeeded in preventing serious leakage at this juncture in the line.
I am using a 19 mm wrench and a modified 17mm wrench. I ground the latter down so that it would fit around the electrical contacts on the pump.
I have been changing the copper washers each time from a generic supply I have on hand. So far no luck.
Has anybody else gone through this exercise? Is there a good way to get these washers tight enough so that they do not leak? All input is welcome.
I would be very embarrassed to take the car as is to a garage for the fix.
