Cleaning PCV in situ -- 960/V90 -- using engine flush??? Opinions wanted

Having some oil consumption issues with the wife's 1998 V90, 225k miles. Among other things, I suspect a partially blocked PCV system. While I am in favor of removing the breather box and replacing, as well as cleaning all of the associated hoses, anyone who is familiar with these cars knows that removing the breather box is much more complicated than on a red block engine due to access issues.

I read the 700/900 FAQ, and it appears that some were able to at least partially clean the PCV system by pouring engine flush down the flame trap hose assembly, and thus into the breather box and the oil pan, where it apparently dissolved some of the gunk.

My plan would be to remove the oil drain plug, drain the oil, and then pour the engine flush down the flame trap hose and (hopefully) see it exit the oil drain with a bunch of gunk. Does anyone know if this will work?

I am very reluctant to use engine flush in any other way due to horror stories of creating blocked oil passages in the motor.
