Thanks for the help and especially the photo. I located the bracket and the barrel had a nut on it so I was able to get another one at the hardware so I could securely fasten the barrel, and I also secured a suitable knob at the hardware. Fastened everything up and it looks pretty good even though you have to lie under the dash to see it. :)
