The clutch gap was within spec. The ground wire from the compressor to the chassis ground showed continuity. When I ran a wire from the positive battery terminal to the disconnected compressor wire the clutch engaged every time. Finally I re-soldered the bad relay connection on the circuit board, exactly the same one pictured in the FAQs and the compressor/clutch fired right up with plenty of interior cooling.
