73 es starter 1800

You do have a correct part number... What brand is it? I Bought a Bosch unit from IPD a few months ago and it went right in my 71'.

If they sold you the later style, I'd save yourself a lot of grief and just return the starter. Both styles are common and easily found.

Also, most people will tell you the older ones had stronger guts and typically last longer.
