94 octane gas

Does anyone know anything about gas.
The 240 I own requires minimum 90 octane.
At the pump, they sell 89 and 91 octane.
Instead of paying for a full tank of 91, I pump in half a tank of 91 and half a tank of 89 figuring that when they mix together in my tank, I'll have 90 octane.
In other words when they mix, they will average out to 90.
Is this valid reasoning?
