Thanks! Do you mean regular "rubbing compound"? Before attempting to sand it?

And how would you recommend application of it?

Can you recommend the proper type of sandpaper?

I am not going for a "quality" look, just better than what it is. IMO, there is no point going for quality job when the rest of the paint on the car is still wanting. That may be a future project; this is more or less a temporary fix for the worst part.
