M41 question 444-544

Recently bought a 65 544 with a M41 tranny with OD. Nice surprise as the car had no brakes so I couldn't drive it and didn't know it had OD until I dragged it home and put it on the lift. Seems to work fine with wheels off ground. Got a lot more to do before I get it on the road

Question...When I change oil in the tranny and OD, can I remove all three plugs on the bottom of the OD without something popping out and bouncing across the floor? Want to inspect/clean the filter screens.

Also, what oil to use? ATF dexron or type F, or just 20 W 50 motor oil. Read many posts and still can't decide.
