what is this pipe? 200 1993

I did follow the pipe and it is part of the egr system - it goes into the exhaust manifold.

I "disabled" the egr with the nickel-in-the-intake manifold trick, and the car runs much better. Should I leave all the electrical connections attached to the erg? I figure they go to the computer.
